A Little About Tires

Radial tires have belt plies laid out diagonally that stabilizes tread and reinforces the tread area.

In a nutshell, and to put it simply, there are three categories of tires:
  • All-Season
  • High-Performance
  • Winter/Snow

The most basic, and most affordable of the three are all-season tires. These tires are designed to work well in dry, wet, snowy or slushy driving conditions.

High-Performance tires have stiff sidewalls and high traction – emphasizing a “grip” on the road. These are not the best tires for comfort or good fuel efficiency. These tires are popular with those who want to “feel the road!”

For the best control and mobility during winter conditions one should look at putting snow tires on all four wheels of their vehicle. These tires have small grooves in the treads that allow for better handling in these extreme conditions. Studs can also be added to these tires to provide even better traction.

No matter what tire you decide to invest in, you can be assured that Professional Automotive Care has the widest selection, best discount pricing and most efficient service in town!

How to Tell When You Need Tires

There are a couple of simple tests you can perform to tell if you should replace your used and worn tires. Make it a habit to walk around your car regularly, and watch for low or flat tires. Tire pressure should be checked frequently. Look for problems with treads and extra wear on the sidewalls. If you see any tears, bumps, blisters or cuts on the sidewalls you can be sure the tire needs to be replaced. Any of these signs of damage can lead to a flat tire.

Check the tread of our tires; specifically both sides and the center of each tire. If you see uneven wear on the tread of a tire, be sure to bring it in and have it balanced as this could be a sign of improper inflation or wheel alignment.

Tread depth can be checked by the old "Penny Method". Take an Abe Lincoln penny and insert it, head first, into the groove of the tread. If Mr. Lincoln’s head is not visible then it is likely your tire has good tread, but if you can see part of his head, it’s time to get your tires checked by the professionals at Professional Automotive Service!

If you find you need to replace your tires, you can be sure our ASE Certified Technicians can help you decide on the best tire for your driving needs. We use only state-of-the-art equipment and our warranties are the best in the business!
